What is Laser Hair Removal?

During a Laser Hair Treatment, a beam of highly concentrated light is focused on the hair follicles. The pigment in the follicle absorbs the light which destroys the hair, leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.

What are the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

Time Savings - One benefit of Laser Hair Removal is the increase in time you’ll have from not having to shave. Another time saver is the speed of the treatments. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The size of the area treated can be as large as the size of a quarter each second. Smaller areas, such as the upper lip can be treated in a minute or so while large areas such as a back or entire legs can take up to an hour.

Permanent Procedure: Most patients report permanent hair loss after an average of five to seven treatments.

Preparing for Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Laser Hair Removal is considered a medical treatment and is more than just zapping hair. There are certain risks to this treatment so the number one thing is to thoroughly check the credentials of the technician performing the procedure.

Before your procedure you will need to limit the plucking and waxing and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. These treatments eliminate the hair roots, which is exactly what the laser targets. A more successful treatment will be insured if you don’t pluck, wax or have electrolysis.

It’s also very important that you avoid sun exposure before your treatment, which is why this is a great time of year to have treatments! Sun exposure makes the laser less effective and can cause complications after treatment.

During Laser Hair Removal Treatments

The technician performing your treatment will be adjusting the equipment according to the color, thickness and location of your hair along with your skin color. Both you and your technician will wear eye protection and in order to protect the outer layer of your skin a cold gel or special cooling device will be used.

The technician will test an area of the skin with a pulse of light and watch the area to make sure the best settings were used and to check for reactions. This is usually done on the first treatment.

When the procedure is over you’ll want to use ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or cold water to ease any discomfort. Treatments are usually scheduled four to six weeks apart and you’ll need treatments until your hair stops growing. Hair will continue to fall out over the next month or so.

Sunscreen should be worn to prevent temporary changes in the color of your skin. And really. . . just be smart and wear sunscreen all the time!

Cost of Laser Hair Removal

Each clinic has their own prices set for treatment. The costs can vary widely, depending on:

  •  Size of area being treated
  • Time required for treatment
  • Number of treatments required
  • Location

Some clinics offer package discounts – buy a set number of treatments up front and you may or may not need them, depending on the efficiency of your technician and how your skin and hair responds to the treatment. Other clinics, like Caddell’s Laser Clinic, offer a sliding scale per treatment. The first treatment is the most expensive, because there is more hair. Each treatment is shorter in length and therefore is cheaper. You pay for each appointment and at your initial consultation, you’ll receive a cost estimate.

Combo Treatments

Most people have different color hair and not all colors of hair respond to Laser Hair Removal. Some clinics, like Caddell’s also offer Electrolysis in combination with Laser Hair Removal for the most effective treatments. The laser targets the dark hair and electrolysis targets the lighter or gray hairs.

And read what one of our client’s had to say about our services, "I've had laser hair removal & electrolysis done at Caddell's, & had a fantastic experience. Laser hair removal was done in 2 areas, & I expanded to more areas & added electrolysis. For Laser Hair Removal I had Zuzanna & Debbie, each one was professional, set my expectations well, were easy to schedule time with, quickly moved me up to a higher (& more effective) laser setting but also watched for discomfort around sensitive body parts. I am glad to have worked with them both. Karen for electrolysis is fantastic. She explained the procedure well, works quickly, monitors comfort levels, & is very pleasant to be around.

I got laser done on my chest at a different location previously, who sold me a package. It was a different laser & ultimately 70% of the hair grew back. The laser at Caddell's seems to be working better, & their pricing system makes for cheaper maintenance visits. I have recommended the service & individuals to a friend & I intend to recommend them to more people.”
