Ink Regret? With Laser Tattoo Removal you get a do-over!

  • October 5, 2015

Tattoos are permanent markings on the skin and in recent years have gained intense popularity in our society. There was even an exhibition at the Museum of Croydon in the UK dedicated to tattoos, who has them and why.

Lots of people want do-overs when it comes to tattoos. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 45,224 tattoo removal procedures were performed in 2013.

At Caddell’s Laser Clinic our clients ratio is 55% come in for lightening their tattoos so they can cover them with a new tattoo and 45% come in for a total tattoo removal.  Whether removing completely or just lightening a tattoo – lasers give you a do-over!

People get their tattoos removed because they don’t reflect who they are any longer, while others have their old tattoo lightened to have new ink placed over the old, because they want something different or they are running out of room.

Laser Tattoo Removal is by far the most popular, widely used and safest treatment for removing or lightening a tattoo. There are several different types of lasers that have different wavelengths which makes them suitable for different color inks. Lasers used to remove tattoos continue to improve in their ability to remove a more colors of ink and the reduction of scarring.

During laser tattoo removal, the laser is used to selectively target and destroy the tattoo with no damage to the surrounding tissue, which greatly decreases scarring. Because of the different wavelengths, the technician can choose the precise combination of lasers for the depth and color of a particular tattoo. The most difficult colors to remove are yellow and green.

What does Laser Tattoo Removal feel like?

During the laser tattoo removal you’ll feel intense emissions of light penetrate the tattoo and you’ll hear the laser noise and fans. The laser is attracted to the tattoo ink and it shatters the ink into tiny, microscopic crystals, which are then absorbed through the lymphatic system of your body.

Laser tattoo removal treatments are quick, so you can schedule your appointments even with a busy schedule. Caddell’s Laser Clinic offers a numbing cream if desired, to reduce the level of pain from the laser, and many clients express relief after their first session: " wasn't that bad at all!"

We're glad you asked! Head on over to Yelp and read some of our reviews - or check them out on our website!

If you have ink regret and want a do-over, Spring is the best time to visit Caddell’s and to start your treatments – call today and see what a do-over can do for you!

Are You Man Enough to Try Esthetic Services?

I normally write my articles about how women can improve their skin, look younger and more vibrant. But that doesn’t mean that men don’t want to keep their skin looking younger and stop the aging process as much as possible.

I think it goes without saying that today’s work environment is tougher than it used to be. So many things are changing and people are working longer now than they did in the 1980’s and even the 90’s. Job competition is tough and in order to stay in the game a person has to look alive, healthy and able to do the job.

It used to be that a man with gray hair around the temples showed expertise and wisdom. It still does, however when the gray is accompanied by dull, sagging skin that looks old and lifeless then the confidence goes away. Today, a man looking for a job or looking to continue working in his field needs to look prepared to take on any challenge. Keeping your skin healthy helps everyone look stronger and healthier.

Electrocoagulation can successfully treat Broken Capillaries, also known as Spider Veins. Broken Capillaries are tiny, visible blood vessels that are visible on the surface of the skin. Spider Veins are found all over the body and the ones located on the face usually cause the most consternation. Soaring numbers of men with "drinkers’ nose” are having Spider Veins removed to stop them from looking like heavy boozers. Spider Veins around the nose can be caused by alcohol but smoking, sun exposure and rosacea can also cause Spider Veins. An Electrocoagulation treatment consists of an advanced laser that delivers a precise dosage of light energy to each vein, usually using a hand held device.

Microdermabrasion can remove sun-damaged skin and lessens scars and dark spots on the skin. It’s a non-invasive treatment that has no downtime and can be done during a lunch hour.  Patients usually experience some redness for about an hour after the treatment and may feel some tightness in their skin. With Microdermabrasion, the facial skin is rejuvenated and covers up the effects of aging.

Micro Needling can improve the appearance of wrinkles and reduces scars. It can offer successful elimination of wrinkles, acne scars, surgical and burn trauma scars and can be used all over the body. Micro Needling helps your skin become stronger and more resistant to aging and environmental damage. It increases the blood flow to the skin, vital for a youthful look. It also helps skin products absorb more efficiently so you use less product, and get better results!

Chemical Peels effectively treat sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented and finely wrinkled facial areas. This procedure is designed to diminish imperfections by peeling away the skin’s top layers. There are many types of Chemical Peels, from the most superficial to the stronger Trichloroacetic Acid peel. Each type of peel is designed for specific purposes.

Facials are designed to be a part of your everyday skin regimen. Whether your concern is acne, anti-aging, stress & hormone fluctuation or relaxation, facials are no longer considered a luxury treatment but a basic way of taking care of your skin. Facials can be combined with other treatments such as Microdermabrasion and chemical peels to name a few. Facials are an excellent approach in addressing hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, clogged pores and acne, facial lymphatic drainage, loss of luster and elasticity.

Eyebrow Waxing is an excellent way to keep your eyebrows under control. Getting your brows waxed professionally helps prevent giving you a feminine look. A professional doing the waxing can trim your brows and maintain a masculine look.

Laser Beard Sculpting creates the look of a multi-day beard growth without the hassle of spending more, not less, time in front of the mirror. It eliminates the need of carefully wielding a razor. Laser Beard Sculpting can help even if you don’t want the unshaven look and you simply need help to eliminate throat hairs or help getting rid of your 5 o’clock shadow that shows up at 11am. Keeping yourself neat throughout the day not only makes you look more professional it also saves wear and tear on your shirts. (And your ladies face!)

Today, esthetic treatments aren’t just for women. More and more men are discovering the benefits and time savings of esthetic treatments for themselves. Contact Caddell’s Laser and Electrolysis Clinic for  your free consultation.

Are You Considering Laser Hair Removal to Remove Your Unwanted Hair?

  • September 25, 2015

According to CBS News, there were 919,802 Laser Hair Removal treatments in the US in 2011. That’s a lot of hair removal!

And it seems like every other day or so there is some kind of online deal for laser hair removal. It’s the latest and greatest treatment out there. It’s a little scary, the prices make me nervous because you usually get what you pay for.

It’s just kind of crazy when you think about it – who is doing these treatments? Are they certified? Is the business offering the deal licensed? There are some important things you should consider when looking to get Laser Hair Removal.

Important Tips to Know About Laser Hair Removal

  • Laser Hair Removal requires more than one treatment. It’s impossible to know how many treatments it will actually take, but it’s safe to guess more than one! Since no two people are alike you may take more, or less treatments that someone else getting the same treatment. Even with the highly skilled technicians at Caddell’s performing your procedure you may need to return for touch ups.
  • USE A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN.  Using an untrained or uncertified technician increases the risk of complications. Complications are few and we’ve noticed that problems that arise from Laser Hair Removal are usually a result of poor work, which is why these online deals are scary to me. This is a medical treatment and do you want to just go to the cheapest clinic?!
  • Make sure you get a consultation before you start treatments. A skilled medical professional should review your medical history to help make sure your treatments are successful. You should go through your health history at your consultation including a discussion on your medications.

What should you look for in the Laser Hair Removal Clinic?

  • Clean Environment. Make sure the laser is clean! The laser treats all parts of the body – ALL PARTS!
  • Does the clinic use hospital grade wipes in the treatment room?
  • AGAIN - CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS. You need to be able to trust your technician for many reasons. Some will use lower energy on the laser, which may provide you with a less painful treatment, however the laser won’t be as effective and you’ll require more treatments.

Trusting the technician and knowing that they are setting the laser appropriately for your skin type and hair follicle is key. This is why using a well-known clinic, such as Caddell’s Laser Clinic, is better than a random online coupon. The technicians at Caddell’s are highly trained and certified and have a variety of lasers at their disposal to use on different skin pigments and hair types.

Does Micro Needling Improve the Appearance of Wrinkles and Acne Scars?

  • August 10, 2015
Micro Needling is an anti-aging treatment that is proving to work well and show great results. Dermal rollers are available for home use in addition with Micro Needling at a spa or clinic. What are dermal rollers? A dermal roller is a small device that has dozens of surgical grade, or acupuncture size needles that roll over your skin and puncture the surface of your skin with hundreds of tiny holes.

It’s recommended that you use this device over your face, usually three times a week, with light pressure. And why, you may ask, do this? It sounds a bit like torture! Well, needling allows skin products to be absorbed into your skin better and improves the look and texture of your skin by making your skin create more collagen (the natural stuff produced by your body, not the kind that’s injected).

Collagen is your skin’s way of responding to damage you create on your skin when you needle. The results are smoother skin which removes wrinkles and some scars.

There are Cons on needling at home. Buying an inexpensive dermal roller can cause the needles to come off of the roller and stick in your skin – OW! (Think pincushions or porcupines!) If you’re going to needle at home, buy a high grade roller to avoid looking like a pincushion. Another Con is the fact that you can overdue the rolling and cause infections and create more issues than you had before. The needles get dull and dirty and need to be changed frequently and should be thoroughly cleaned after each use.

The Dermal Rollers purchased for home use don’t puncture the skin as deeply as the rollers at spas and clinics and experts in the field of anti-aging have found that combining home and clinical needling prove to offer the most effective results, because the skin is in a constant state of repair, producing collagen.

Studies show that men and women are starting anti-aging treatments in their 30’s and are beginning to choose natural treatments over injectables, such as Botox®and Restylane®. According to the Wall Street Journal, more and more people want to look like themselves and are afraid of looking different. Natural treatments such as MicroNeedling and a variety of laser treatments such as Fractional Co2 Laser and IPL PhotoFacial treatments are becoming more and more popular. In fact, these treatments are becoming so popular appointments are filling up fast!

The results take time to really show up so if you’re going to want to look your freshest during the holiday season you should start booking your treatments now, so when you walk into a room during the festivities people will think you’re glowing and happy.

How to Remove Brown Spots Left Behind by the Sun

  • August 3, 2015

What did the sun leave behind?

Let’s face it – a tan is great - but when it fades and leaves large brown spots that’s not so great. Did you know that most people say that dark spots are the biggest indicator of age? More than wrinkles and hair color? No matter what your age, if you’ve got dark brown spots, you could look up to 20 years older!

What treatment is best for removing those unsightly brown marks that show up in the fall, after we’ve put the bathing suits and shorts away and pulled out the cozy sweatshirts and sweaters?

There are several treatments which can effectively remove the dark spots that stay behind when the sun has left us.  It’s best if you come up with your plan of attack with a Master Esthetician, like the staff at Caddell’s Laser Clinic.

Chemical Peels – Let our Master Estheticians pick the right Chemical Peel for you. We have several different types to choose from and can determine the right one during your consultation. A Chemical Peel superficially injures the skin to provoke the wound healing response that will remove dark pigment.

Laser Treatments – IPL Photo Facial Treatments have proven to be extremely effective on sun damaged skin. The Photo Facial treatments can repair damaged skin with little or no downtime, because of the way they penetrate the skin, heat up the dark spots and destroying them, causing them to flake off after treatment. Depending on your skin tone and the level of damage, more than one treatment may be necessary to remove the spots. The IPL treatment stimulates the production of collagen, which plumps the skin, creating a fresher look. IPL Photo Facials are a great treatment for the face, neck, décolleté and the hands. Within several days your skin can look brand new and damage free.

Use Sunscreen - 90% of brown spots are caused by sun exposure. Basically a brown spot is a pocket of Melanin, the substance used to protect the skin from the sun. You can ward off future discolorations by using a high quality sunscreen and reasonable skin coverage in strong sunlight.

Limiting your sun exposure is key to preventing brown spots. Incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine and use a medical grade sunscreen for best results such as, SunTegrity, Elta MD, SkinCeuticals or Epionce.

Your skin deserves a much needed rest from the sun after the intense summer sun. After the summer months of sun exposure your skin can form discolorations such as freckles and dark spots. Even scars can become more noticeable. In fact, tiny spots can continue to grow larger with time, so the sooner you get them treated the better. Call Caddell’s Laser Clinic for a consultation on how to treat those brown spots.

Do You Have Unsightly Spider Veins You’d Like Removed?

  • July 9, 2015

Varicose and spider veins are enlarged veins that can be unsightly, uncomfortable, and, in extreme case, present a risk to your health. An estimated 50 - 55%of women and 40 - 45% of men in the United States suffer from varicose or spider veins. While spider veins rarely present any problem other than a slight discomfort in the legs, varicose veins are likely to cause sores, cramping, and other pain. A few factors which may play a part in the development of varicose and spider veins are:

  • Heredity - There is a significant relationship between heredity and the development of varicose veins and spider veins.
  • Age - The development of varicose veins and spider veins may occur at any age but usually occurs between the ages of 18 and 35 years, and peaks between 50 and 60 years.
  • Gender – Females are affected approximately four to one to males.
  • Pregnancy – Pregnancy is a common factor contributing to the formation of varicose and spider veins. Varicose veins that form during pregnancy may spontaneously improve or even disappear a few months after delivery.
  • Lifestyle/Occupation - People who are involved with prolonged sitting or standing in their daily activities have an increased risk of developing varicose veins.
  • Binding clothing.
  • Chronic constipation.
  • Birth control pills/estrogen replacement therapy.
  • High-heeled shoes.
  • Menstrual cycle.
  • Obesity.
  •  Sedentary lifestyle.
  • Exposure to sunlight or heat.

At Caddell’s Laser Clinic, we offer non-invasive laser vein therapy treatments for spider veins and other unwanted veins. The use of lasers has revolutionized many cosmetic procedures, and the treatment of spider veins is no exception. Unlike previously used treatments, laser treatments are quick and effective, with little to no down time. A technician uses a hand-held laser to pinpoint the offending vein, and uses the heat of the laser to facilitate coagulation, closing the vein permanently. It may take several treatments to attain the desired effect.

However, Caddell’s does not treat varicose veins, which require more drastic measures to remove, including invasive procedures or even surgery. This is why it is so important to understand the causes of spider and varicose veins, so that you can prevent ever getting them in the first place:

  • Avoid crossing your legs.
  • Elevate your legs when possible, especially when sleeping, keeping your feet above heart level.
  • Exercise daily. Walking, climbing stairs, cycling, and swimming keep your calf muscles in motion to activate the calf muscle pump. This reduces pooling and pressure in the veins.
  •  Move your legs frequently. Flexing your ankles periodically will pump the blood out of your legs (simulating walking). During periods of prolonged sitting or standing, flex your ankles 10 times and repeat this every 10 minutes. Try to avoid sitting for extended periods throughout your day.
  •  Wear support compression hose. These provide external graduated counter-pressure to aid in venous blood flow to the heart. They reduce pooling and pressure in the veins. They also may reduce the risk of forming a deep vein blood clot. Consider wearing them during long plane or car rides.
  • Maintain your ideal body weight to reduce excess pressure on your legs.
  • Avoid prolonged sitting and standing. On long car or plane trips activate your calf muscle pump by moving your feet up and down frequently as described above. You should also consider stopping for short walks every few hours.
  • Avoid excessive heat on your legs, such as hot tubs and hot baths. Heat will tend to increase vein distention and lead to more pooling of blood.
  • Avoid hormonal birth control or non bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
  • Eat a high-fiber diet to avoid constipation.
  • Avoid tight, binding clothing.

Things to Know Before Laser Tattoo Removal

  • June 24, 2015

Sometimes, in my line of work, I see something that really upsets me. It’s usually around clinics that misuse their lasers and injure a client. The latest episode is a picture that a client showed me of his arm immediately after Laser Tattoo Removal from another clinic. The arm was a bloody mess and terribly painful.

Unhealthy Discounts

One of my pet peeves is all of the discount coupons in the marketplace about "Discount Laser Treatments”. Getting a great deal on Laser Tattoo Removal is awesome, however how can you be sure that the person that’s firing a laser directly on your skin is qualified? What training has the person that’s going to fire the laser had? Do they understand your skin type?

Miss-firing a laser on a client, whether for Laser Hair Removal or Laser Tattoo Removal can lead to burns and scarring. A great deal isn’t so great if it leaves you permanently scarred from your experience. A bad tattoo can be erased, however Laser Tattoo Removal usually ends up costing more than the tattoo itself, takes longer to remove and scarring due to a bad removal treatment can require further treatments (and expense) to remove the scar. Rather than spending more time and more money undoing a bad treatment, isn’t it better to get it done right the first time?

That’s why I’ve come up with this list of things to look for and ask about when you’re at a clinic for a Laser Treatment. If you’re regretting your Tattoo, please read through this list so you know what to expect.

  • We recommend that you check out three different clinics before deciding where you’ll get your treatment.  Make sure the clinics are familiar with the Washington state law and abide by all the required regulations.
  • Make sure a Physician, Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) conduct your consultation. Medical personnel are the only ones allowed to do a consultation in Washington state.
  • Know what to expect with Laser Tattoo Removal, this isn’t a guaranteed treatment. When speaking with a Laser Tattoo expert ask them if they think the tattoo can be removed completely. Sometimes a tattoo will fade partially and leave a ghost image.
  • One treatment to remove a tattoo won’t be enough. Total removal of a tattoo depends on the color of the ink, how old the tattoo is and how the artist put the ink in. The success of removing it depends on whether or not it was done by a professional or a novice, how old it is and what color inks were used. Normally, a technician won’t be able to tell how many treatments it will take to remove a tattoo until after a treatment. Then they will be able to see how the ink is breaking up and give you some kind of idea. Avoid clinics who know how many treatments it will take by just visually looking at the tattoo.
  • Other questions to ask during your consultation are what kind of training and experience does the esthetician have who will be performing your treatment. The state of Washington requires that any esthetician working with lasers must be a Master Esthetician.
  • Find out how far apart your treatments will be spaced. Normal time between appointments is 6 weeks in order to avoid textual changes to your skin.
  • I’m not trying to scare you – Laser Tattoo Removal is generally safe when performed by an educated and qualified Esthetician however each individual’s health, skin and tattoos are different, so it’s important to ask lots of questions! Be sure to ask for before and after pictures from other clients with similar skin types and tattoos. This will help you set realistic expectations of your Laser Tattoo Removal treatments.
  •  It should go without saying however – check the treatment room. Laser Tattoo Removal is a MEDICAL TREATMENT and the treatment room should be clean. They should use paper drapes, disposable pillowcases and the Esthetician performing the treatment should wear gloves.
  • A new law in Washington state states that any topical numbing cream requires a prescription, and the doctor performing the consultation can call in a prescription for you. At Caddell’s Laser Clinic, we can keep your numbing cream on hand for you. It is locked in our safe and will only be used by you.
Post Treatment
  • After your treatment, there are a few things you might experience - blisters, swelling, raising of the tattoo, pinpoint bleeding, redness and /or temporary darkening. You should never see punch marks in the skin and you should never bleed. Pinpoint bleeding is expected, it means the settings on the laser were set high enough to damage the ink beneath the skin, but you should never bleed, which indicates that the settings were too high or the Esthetician went over the area too many times. These symptoms should disappear within one to two weeks. What you should see is a white frosting over the surface of the tattoo. This is moisture from your skin rising to the surface.
  • Another reason to make sure you only trust a knowledgeable and trusted technician to perform Laser Tattoo Removal on you is the side effects. Scars, infection, burns and textural changes to your skin are a potential risk.
  • The most important to consider when choosing a clinic to remove your tattoo is who do you trust to remove your tattoo? Caddell’s Laser Clinic has been in business since 1982 – we are experts at Laser Tattoo Removal and have been removing tattoos since 2002.  We work with all types of clientele and provide a comfortable, non-judgmental and caring experience for our clients. We are trusted by Tattoo Artist who recommend us to their clients.  We sincerely hope that we are one of the three clinics that you visit, and ultimately choose, when you are gathering the facts for your Tattoo Removal procedure.

Laser tattoo removal has the ability to change your life for the better. You have the opportunity to remove a tattoo that doesn’t reflect your level of maturity. Or the tattoo may become too old and dated for your current lifestyle. Whatever the reason for wanting to remove or cover a tattoo, make sure you make a smart choice when you choose who will remove it. Don’t let a cheap price for the treatment dictate who you choose to remove it – make a safe choice and choose a safe and responsible clinic, like Caddell’s Laser Clinic.

Are You Doing What’s Important to Your Face?

  • May 4, 2015

Washing your face seems like a simple task to complete, but doing it well may be more complex than you think. Washing Your Face Dermatologist Debra Jaliman, MD, says that if you’re doing it wrong, you may actually be causing damage to your skin, but she has some helpful advice to help save your pretty face and keep it clean and healthy for good.

Essentially, it’s not all about what you use - it’s how you use it. Her advice is simply this; "Stick to the basics—skincare is in the details.” She states that when washing your face, the most important thing to do is to use something other than your fingers. Gently rub cleanser into your skin using cotton pads or cotton balls; they are easy to use and dispose of, and are always clean. A washcloth will work as well, but it has to be clean to keep bacteria and dirt from finding its way into pores.

Where you’re scrubbing is also important. When you are rubbing in a cleanser, focus on these problem areas: around the nostrils, lips, and along the hairline where dirt and make-up can collect and build-up.

As for the cleanser itself, Jaliman recommends gentle facial cleansers above all else, such as the Image Skincare products, which are gentle on skin. Caddell’s carries Image Skincare products including the Total Facial Cleanser, which is great for all ages and skin types, and the Total line, which is effective in reversing the signs of aging for younger and healthier looking skin. If you have oily skin, try using products with salicylic acid, as Jaliman says they are effective at removing oils. Image Skincare products also has face peels that have salicylic acid for treating oil and acne, as well as basic cleansers and moisturizers to maintain clean and healthy skin.

Jaliman also states that if you’re looking for a more immediate and dramatic change, investing in an exfoliator can do the trick. Most drugstores carry cheap exfoliation systems, but they are not as good or effective as what dermatology clinics and skincare specialists like Caddell’s carry. They may be more expensive, but results reflect the price.

New York University professor Rhoda Narins, MD, president of the American Society of Dermatology Surgery also adds, "Sometimes all you really need is a good moisturizer and a mild cleanser, and you can take years off your face.  When skin is dry, every wrinkle is accentuated, making you look older.” With Caddell’s Epionce® unique delivery mechanism which allows their blend of active botanical ingredients to deeply penetrate the skin, resulting in a stronger barrier that can help resist the effects of aging & disease.

Great skin is not hard to come by, even if you’ve neglected your skin in the past. Caring for your skin now, no matter your age, is a long-term investment that will help you remain on good terms with your body. And remember, use sunscreen and moisturizer daily to keep your skin protected and hydrated, and when in doubt, stick to the basics!

As a licensed medical esthetician I would love to help your skin look its best and to help you Enhance Your BeautyTM! If you have troubled skin or questions, please contact me and I will be happy to set up a free consultation to review your skin issues and repair damaged skin.

Is Your Skin Photosensitive Due to Medications You’re Taking?

  • April 1, 2015

Are You Taking Drugs That Makes You More Sensitive to The Sun?

Some drugs make us more sensitive, or photosensitive, to the sun. Photosensitivity is caused by the combination of sunlight and certain medications or substances. An increase of sensitivity to sunlight may cause severe sunburns, hives, rashes and an increased risk of skin cancer can be the result of being out in the sun unprotected while taking these medications. With some medications, it’s not a matter of if you’ll get skin cancer by not wearing sunscreen, but when.

What Drugs Can Make Skin Photosensitive?

Assorted antibiotics, sulfa drugs, cold/allergy medicines and pain killers are among the medications that can make people photosensitive and more vulnerable to the sun. In addition, some medications that are used to treat acne, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, some auto-immune diseases and cancer also cause photosensitivity.  These medications can cause a sunburn in as few as two minutes if skin is exposed to the sun without protection.

Sunscreen is for Everyone

It is important to make sure you protect your skin when you’re outside regardless if it’s sunny or not, what medications you take and whatever your skin type or your age. Whenever you’re out you should wear an effective sunscreen that is broad-spectrum. By wearing sunscreen you will help prevent sunburn and you’ll decrease the risk of skin cancer. You will also avoid early skin aging caused by the sun.

Caddell’s Laser Clinic is committed to providing the finest, most effective sunscreens. The wide variety of sunscreen offered at Caddell’s offer many different choices to people who have individual needs for their sunscreen.

  •  EltaMD – formulated with transparent zinc oxide, are noncomedogenic, sensitivity-free, fragrance-free & paraben-free.

  • SkinCeuticals – features broad spectrum sunscreens featuring Z-Cote to help protect skin for UVA rays.
  • Suntegrity – a holistic, mineral sun care line to help people avoid skin cancer.

The industry of skin protection has made huge advancements since the 1950’s when people slathered themselves in baby oil that had iodine in it for a quicker, darker tan. Today, there are many different types of sunscreen including water-resistant types so they won’t rinse off in water or drip into your eyes and sting when you sweat.

What Should You Look for in Sunscreen?

If you want to have fun in the sun and play it safe then this list of must have’s should be followed when purchasing a sunscreen:

  • Should offer Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB protection.
  • Should be fragrance free.
  • Should be oil free.
  • Should be paraben-free.
  • Should be Sensitivity-free & noncomedogenic.
  • Should be a high enough SPF to protect you for your kind of activities.

There are a wide variety of sunscreens available now that you can custom pick for your individual needs. If you have acne, rosacea and discoloration, there are sunscreens that can calm and protect sensitive skin types. If you’re sensitive to other chemicals you may need to look for sunscreens that won’t irritate your skin like the natural, holistic sunscreens made from minerals.  Some sunscreens for the face are available in tints so it can be used as a foundation as well. You may want sunscreens that contain super anti-oxidants and amino acids that will enhance and protect your skin.

There’s no reason not to wear sunscreen every day and now with these brands being offered at Caddell’s Laser Clinic you can continue to protect your skin and have fun in the sun!

Curious About Laser Tattoo Removal?

  • March 9, 2015
jerry for blog

Sometimes a tattoo that looked good when you first got it needs to go because it’s outdated, faded, you have a new job or it’s just time for a change.

For over 10 years, Caddell’s Laser and Electrolysis Clinic has been a trusted and respected center for tattoo removal and cover-up. Being the only tattoo removal clinic invited to the Seattle Tattoo Expo since 2002 has its own distinction and we’re proud of it.  Did you know that we work with many tattoo artists in our area?  As an artist matures so does their art and we’ve found that most artists have tattoos they don’t want because they have outgrown them or they aren't as high a quality as they'd like.  It's becoming more common to have unwanted tattoos.  Now they know they have somewhere to go to do something about them; Caddell's. And now we have something new to brag about: Jerry Norris.

A member of the National Tattoo Association, Jerry has 16 years of experience already in the tattoo industry, and an abundance of skill and knowledge to offer to the company’s sterling reputation. A newly Licensed Esthetician, Jerry will have much to offer on this side of the needle—his years in the tattoo industry have prepped him for all things tattoo.

There are many reasons for wanting to have a tattoo removed; a bad artist, getting a new job, wanting a newer, more relevant tattoo.  Sometimes you just get tired of the tattoo you’ve got and either want it removed or replaced.  People who choose to have their tattoo lightened do so because sometimes even the best artist might not be able to cover up that particular tattoo. For those of you unfamiliar with tattoo removal and the process, here’s what you need to know: It is performed by applying a laser directly to the tattoo. Here at Caddell’s we use the Hoya ConBio laser and the Ruby Laser. These types of laser use different wavelengths to remove multiple colors of tattoo ink.  The Ruby Laser is particularly good at removing turquoise and blue ink. The lasers use energy to safely penetrate the skin and target the tattoo at its core. The laser is attracted to the color where it shatters the ink and turns it into tiny crystals that the body then removes.  How does this work? For those of you who decided to skip physics, different colors have different wavelengths on the electromagnetic spectrum. Our eyes detect these wavelengths and allow us to see these colors. The laser we use in tattoo removal emits these different wavelengths to adhere to the frequency of the color on the spectrum, and allows it to break down the colors.

More often than not, after the technicians at Caddell’s complete the Laser tattoo removal treatments and the healing is done, there is no visible sign that a tattoo was ever there, however it is important to understand that laser tattoo removal may not restore your skin to its pristine pre-tattoo condition.  The skin is wounded when you get a tattoo and it is wounded when you have a tattoo removed.  Your skin may look a little shiny after the tattoo removal treatments and over time that will resolve itself.

There are many variables to consider when doing Tattoo removal.  Some tattoos lift after two treatments while others can take up to 15 treatments.  It all depends on the type of ink used, the skill of the artist, how deep the ink is, what color it is and what skin type you have.

Laser tattoo removal can also be used to get the skin ready for a tattoo cover up.  This is where Caddell’s works closely with the tattoo artist.  After two treatments we send our client back to their tattoo artist to see if it’s light enough for a cover up.  Most tattoo cover ups take between 1 – 4 treatments before it is ready for a cover-up with the majority of clients needing 2 – 3 treatments.

So, if you are looking to remove that tattoo that you got the moment you turned eighteen, or any other tattoos you have outgrown, remember Jerry and Debbie at Caddell’s Laser and Electrolysis Clinic.
