What You Need to Know About IPL/Photofacials Before Getting Treatments

  • April 7, 2021

Intense Pulse Light, AKA IPL, is a versatile and established treatment that has been around since the 90’s and is still one of the most common in-office treatments for skin that is in need of rejuvenation. If you are bothered by age and sun spots, broken capillaries, or just the overall appearance of your skin, then you should seriously consider IPL/Photofacial treatments. At Caddell’s Laser Clinic, we use the Lumenis M22 for these treatments to gently and effectively treat a wide variety of skin conditions including:

  • Sun Spots, Age Spots and Freckles
  • Acne
  • Roscea
  • Visible Signs of Aging
  • Spider Veins or Broken Capillaries
  • Hemangiomas

IPL should not be dismissed as an “old” therapy because this lunchtime treatment has managed to keep up with the times, which include shorter treatment sessions and faster results.

IPL is its own technology which uses wavelengths of light to treat pigmentation and vascular imperfections and to improve your skin’s overall appearance. Lumenis IPL allows your Master Esthetician at Caddell’s to customize your treatment to your skin type and the results you want.

IPL/Photofacial Treatments are only as good as the person giving them. The Lumenis treatments were developed by laser medical experts and all treatments are FDA approved. Your Master Esthetician has been trained on this advanced technology on how to adjust the settings according to your skin type, skin color, and the specific skin treatment you are choosing. Be wary of the super inexpensive deals on IPL treatments, offered by discount providers who have little experience or training. They may not use devices properly – which could lead to permanent skin damage. IPL is safe in skilled hands but burns and scarring from IPL can occur when done by poorly trained technicians. Don’t be shy about asking questions when you’re having your initial consultation.

IPL Treatments work great for a wide variety of people regardless of age or condition of their skin. As we age, we develop spots on our bodies. IPL can greatly lighten those spots, and older people concerned about skin tone get great results from IPL. IPL treatments also reduce Rosacea, which gets worse when working out or drinking wine which can cause embarrassment. IPL treatments close off the blood supply to the tiny capillaries which diminishes the redness. People with broken capillaries on the sides of their nostrils, chin and cheeks have IPL to reduce these.

IPL is a great treatment for Acne because it kills the P-acne bacteria which reduces breakouts. These treatments can be done every other week to effectively control acne. During your initial consultation, your Master Esthetician will use the Fitzpatrick system of classifying skin colors to determine if IPL treatments will work for you.

Not all IPL/Photofacial treatments are created equal. There are different machines that have different wavelength ranges, the Lumenis M22 provides a wider range of wavlengths and a more powerful and effective than other machines that may be older and less powerful. The older machines may take longer, may not be as effective and may not provide as much improvement per treatment.

A photofacial is NOT a facial. Even though an IPL treatment is also known as a photofacial, it is a medical procedure and not a spa treatment. A facial won’t give you the same results as an IPL/photofacial and that’s because IPL addresses so many skin issues all at once such as acne, sun damage, broken capillaries, and hyperpigmentation just to name a few. And after a series of IPL treatments, your skin will feel smoother and show improvement in your skin texture.

For best results, a series of IPL is needed to make your skin act younger. A single session can show visible changes, however a series of three to five treatments will show the best results. After that, periodic treatments every six to 12 months will make skin “act” younger over the long term. IPL can also reverse the genetic markers for age – demonstrating the turning back of time at a cellular level. Your results will last longer if you take good care of your skin by using a good antioxidant and sunscreen. Your Master Esthetician at Caddell’s can work with you on getting the best skin care products for you, extending the effectiveness of your treatments.

Do Your Eyes Make a Good First Impression?

  • December 14, 2020

Updated 12/14/2020

I wanted to write today about the difference between a wonderful product we sell at Caddell’s, Revitalash®, and Eyelash Extensions.

As humans, we’re hard-wired to pick up subtle clues about a person from their eyes, so making yours stand out can be one of the best ways to make a lasting impression. But how strong will that impression be if your eyelashes are lacking? Short or absent eyelashes can give the impression of an unhealthy or an older person. If your lashes have gradually become shorter, lighter, or have lost thickness, you may be wondering if there is a way to make them long and luscious again.

Revitalash Cosmetics

Revitalash® is a prescription medication used to stimulate eyelash growth, and more people are ranting and raving about its amazing results. Now, you may be thinking something along the lines of, "But don’t lash extensions do the same thing? Aren’t they more affordable?” Well, let’s take a moment to check it out and see.

The Basics ~

When comparing these two methods, you obviously want to consider time, money, and how effective and lasting the desired results are. Revitalash® helps you regrow your natural eyelashes and make them thicker and longer, while lash extensions can imitate your natural lashes, or offer a more bold and daring effect with a variety of colors and style.

No matter how much we want to deny it, sometimes beauty has a bit of a price tag. Lash extensions vary in cost, and like most beauty enhancements, there is a broad range of expenses you can pay to have them done. The more inexpensive method is using false eyelashes which can be purchased at any drugstore for $3 and up. These are glued as one strip just above your lashes, will last throughout the day, and may be used (for most brands) up to 10 times. While this is highly affordable, it can look fake if not done right. Some women opt for the more practical route; professionally done eyelash extensions. These are individual hairs that are attached to your existing eyelashes with an adhesive and are indistinguishable from natural lashes. However, they can cost between $250 - $600, and while they can begin to fall out as soon as two days after application, they normally last from 2-4 weeks. If you want to maintain your eyelash appeal with this method, touch ups are a must, and these can add up fast since they can cost anywhere from $50 - $100 and can require visits as frequently as every two weeks.

Revitalash®, on the other hand, varies in cost depending upon what package you purchase and the amount of liquid in the bottle itself can easily last for up to two months.

How much time exactly is this going to add to your daily routine? Obviously being able to do an at-home treatment in your own bathroom can save an exponential amount of time when compared to having to travel back and forth to a salon, but what about the actual application process? With extensions, it can take from 90 to 150 minutes for the first application, and then touch ups can last anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes. That is a huge chunk of your day!

Revitalash® takes only a matter of minutes. First, you remove any make-up and clean your face, and take out your contact lenses if you have them. Then you apply the solution to your eyelash and/or brow area and volia, you’re done! It’s that simple.

Revitalash® is more affordable per month and takes less time to apply than extensions, and you don’t need to go to the salon, but are the results just as good?

The Results ~

To be honest, comparing the results is a bit tricky, because this expectation varies depending on what you want. Extensions are nice because of their instant results; you walk in with dull lashes, and come out with fantastic ones on the same day. Revitalash® does, in fact, give great results, but it can take awhile for these results to show, so it requires a little patience. But after about two months, you can say hello to natural, dramatic lashes! Your lashes will be longer, thicker and appear darker than before. The side effects are minimal, with only 4% of initial test subjects reporting any side effects at all, which is far less than most people report from lash extensions, as the glue they use can irritate eyes.

Another thing to consider is that extensions can limit a lot of daily activities. Itching or rubbing your eyes at all is discouraged, as it can lead to infections. You also can’t get them too wet, which complicates showering, and limits swimming during the upcoming summer months. Putting on too much make-up or make-up remover can cause problems as well, making any morning routine an additional chore. With Revitash®, you just apply and resume your routine. Also, extensions require a solid base of lashes to build on, so if your lashes aren’t quite thick or supportive enough, it can be recommended that you consider Revitalash® anyway.

So basically it boils down to this; if you are looking for a permanent and effective treatment to fix your dull lashes, then Revitalash® is right for you. It requires less time and effort, and is more cost effective. If you are only looking for a temporary improvement, like for a special event or party, then falsies or extensions may be the better option, but if you’re tired of lackluster eyelashes and are looking for a permanent solution, come to Caddell’s and ask about Revitalash® today!

Do You Want to Keep Looking Younger? These Tips Will Help!

  • November 15, 2020

No one wants to look older than they are. Premature wrinkles, sun damage, scars and fine lines can add years to your appearance and keep you from looking your best. It’s impossible to stop the clock, but at Caddell’s, we have been studying skin types, the best products for skin and anti-aging treatments for years and we have tips and treatments to incorporate into your beauty regime that will help fool cameras and mirrors.

Step One - Let’s Start with Your Cleanser

Washing your face daily is essential to keeping skin healthy and younger looking.   Using a gentle cleanser that preserves the skin barrier to prevent dehydration is best when removing dirt, dead skin cells, bacteria, makeup and anything else that might clog pores and cause your skin to look dull and tired. It is very important to thoroughly clean your skin before applying moisturizer to avoid trapping bacteria.

Cleansers with a low pH, like Epionce’s Milky Lotion Cleanser, are an important first step because they clean the skin and pores, without stripping necessary oils. They also allow for better penetration of the serums and facial products used after cleansing.  Other gentle yet effective cleansers sold at Caddell’s are from YG Labs Medical Grade Skin Care Products, who offer a wide selection of Cleansers that help a wide range of skin types, from Acne-Prone skin to cleansers made for dehydrated, mature or sensitive skin.

Step Two - Using Physical or Chemical Exfoliants

As you age, your skin replenishes itself more slowly. Dead skin cells aren’t replaced as quickly, causing skin to look dull and uneven. Exfoliants rescue your skin and there are several types to handle your skin’s needs.

There are two main types of exfoliants – chemical and physical. When using a physical exfoliant avoid ones containing sugar or cleansers with beads as those can make your skin sag. Using a washcloth or soft sponge can gently exfoliate the dead cells off the face and leave it glowing. Exfoliants by YG Labs Medical Grade Skin Care Products, help reveal more perfect, younger looking skin in minutes. Exfoliants soften surface lines and minimize enlarged pores, revealing fresh, young, glowing skin.

Chemical exfoliants, or chemical peels like the ones offered at Caddell’s Laser Clinic, dissolve the bonds between skin cells allowing them to detach and rinse away.  Depending on the results required or the level of damage, there are different types of peels such as the Glycolic, Jessner and TCA Chemical Peels.  They are suitable for any age and help fade uneven pigmentation and help with hydration.

Chemical Peels minimize and remove skin damage from the sun and diminish imperfections. They are used to smooth the face, neck, décolleté and hands.  They are the perfect first step in rejuvenation treatments.

Step Three - Serum's, Vitamins for Your Face

Serum’s contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than moisturizers and are considered a multivitamin for your skin. Serum’s fortify the skin’s daily defenses against environmental assaults and can be used to correct dull, tired complexions.  Certain serums can also help minimize fine lines, microlesions and deeper creases which help resilience return to your skin. This results in younger, healthy-looking, softer, more supple skin.

Look for serums rich in Vitamins A, B, C, D & E, like Epionce’s Intense Defense Serum or the Total Age Corrector Multi-Action Restoring Serum by YG Labs. If you’re unsure of which products will give you the best results for  your skin, schedule a free skin consultation with one of Caddell’s Master Estheticians, they can help guide you on which products and treatments would work best for your skin type.

Step Four - Moisturize Your Face Daily

As you age, the chances you’re going to have an acne break-out diminish and while this means less chance of pimples, it also means  your skin will dry out more easily, which is a major cause of fine lines. A good moisturizer can help prevent skin dehydration and keep your skin looking younger.  The best moisturizers contain water-binding humectants like glycerine and hyaluronic acid.

The Renewal Calming Cream by Epionce is clinically proven to relieve a multitude of skin issues such as irritation and itching due to rashes and eczema. The Intensive Nourishing Cream is good for all skin types with an ultra-rich cream that helps reduce the visible appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have extremely dry, rosacea-prone skin then YG Labs calming Bio-Lipid Repair Cream can help repair the skin’s barrier within eight days and has been dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin.

There are also moisturizers that adjust to the hydration needs of any skin type, such as the Moisture Replenishing Crème by YG Labs. The Editor’s Choice at DaySpa is YG Labs Oil-Free Hydrating Fluid.

Step Five - Don't Skip the Sunscreen - EVER!

Sun damage from UV rays is the number one cause of wrinkles, the good news is it’s never too late to halt the process. Wearing sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 on face, décolleté and hands can stop the sun from breaking down collagen and causing abnormalities in elastin. It is the one surefire way to keep your skin looking as young as possible.

Where does the danger from the sun come from?  UV radiation is found in sunlight and it passes through the ozone layer as waves of energy and is classified into UVA and UVB. While it can’t be felt or seen by us, it causes your skin to age more rapidly than if you were to avoid the sun. As it is exposed to UV radiation, your skin changes differently, it ages faster.  And your skin has a memory, it’s like a diary that’s being kept from a very young age, it doesn’t forget, and it keeps track. Every time you expose yourself to the sun your skin changes. The changes all add up over a lifetime and result in photoaging. Most people consider the changes to their skin as a normal aging process, but the fact is the changes experienced as a result of photoaging are preventable and definitely not the natural aging process.  Wearing sunscreen everyday can help minimize sun damage and photoaging. Not sure which sunscreen to buy? Check out the sunscreens sold at Caddell’s Laser Clinic.

Step Six - Protect Your Skin from Trauma

Older skin is more fragile than younger skin. As you age, the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis, thins, making skin look thinner, paler, and more translucent. The blood vessels of the dermis become more fragile which leads to bruising, cherry angiomas and other issues.  Estrogen levels strongly influence the skin’s integrity in women and can result in premature aging as well. Due to the environmental attacks to your skin as you age, it is important to treat your skin more gently than you did when you were younger.

Try not to rub or pull on your skin when you wash your face or apply skin care products as this can lead to skin tears.  Using a soft, smooth pillowcase can prevent permanent sleep wrinkles.

Look at the Rest of the Story

It’s not just your face that makes you look old. Your neck, chest and hands all contribute to your overall appearance of youth or old age. Neglecting these key, important areas will age you just as quickly as your face. Keep them protected with sunscreen or sun-protective clothing so people will never be able to guess your age.

Are Microneedling Treatments for You?

  • July 16, 2020

Microneedling

If you have wrinkles and scars that you’d like to eliminate then one of the treatments you’ve probably heard of, or even Googled, is Microneedling.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure done with a dermaroller that uses small needles to prick the skin. This creates new collagen and skin tissue that is smoother, firmer and more toned. The dermaroller is applied to your skin multiple times during the treatment, creating tiny wounds to your skin. These wounds trigger collagen to the surface of your skin to repair the skin. The result is smoother, plumper and more glowing skin. Multiple treatments are recommended for best results. Treatments are usually short, 20 minutes or so, with very little downtime. Most people have minimal redness on their skin for an hour or so and can return to normal activities the next day.

Microneedling Pic

When Can You Have Microneedling Treatments?

A plus for Microneedling is that it can be done any time of the year – whether you’re tan or not. Normally treatments are done on the face but can also be done on the hands, neck and the décolleté. Any time of year is a great time to have a Microneedling appointment!

Recently, the FDA approved the SkinPen® Microneedling device by Bellus Medical. The SkinPen® is clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars, stretch mark reduction, burn scar reduction, and is an effective skin and anti-aging treatment. Caddell’s Laser Clinic is one of the clinics in the Bellevue/Seattle area that use the SkinPen® exclusively. The experts at Caddell’s know how to apply the SkinPen® and to give you fantastic results!

At-Home Microneedling Treatments

If you’re aware that you can purchase dermarollers and do Microneedling at home, then undoubtedly you’ve seen that rollers are readily available at retail and online stores for very affordable prices. Why not just do this treatment at home? That’s a possibility, however, there are specific risks when this treatment is done at home.

  • There is a real danger of infection when treatments are done at home. Using at-home devices pose a risk of infection if it is not properly sterile. The resulting infection can require visits to the doctor and may result in scarring.
  • It can be difficult to use the dermaroller correctly, resulting in the treatments actually enlarging pores instead of reducing them when the roller is dragged over the skin. If the needles go in and out of your skin at an angle it can actually cause the wounds to be elongated, which can possibly enlarge the pores.
  • Buying an inexpensive roller can cause real problems, such as having a needle fall off the roller and getting embedded in your skin! OUCH!
  • The at-home rollers don’t penetrate the skin as deep as the professional rollers. This is what makes them perfect for the in-between treatments.

Experts agree that at-home treatments can be beneficial when done between professional Microneedling treatments. You can purchase an at-home dermaroller at Caddell’s for a reasonable price and feel confident that you are getting the best at-home roller possible.

SkinPen, FDA Approved

Recently, the FDA approved the SkinPen® Microneedling device by Bellus Medical and is clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars, stretch mark reduction, burn scar reduction, and is an effective skin and anti aging treatment.

Epionce Sunscreen trio

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

  • May 1, 2020

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and I thought I’d talk about Sunscreen Basics since sunscreen should be an essential part of your Skin care regimen.

Daily, year-round application of sunscreen works to prevent two major skin issues: premature skin aging and the risk of skin cancer. Effective sunscreens are labeled broad-spectrum, have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 or more and be water resistant. And, of course, sunscreen only works when it’s used – that’s when it works the best.

The Epionce sunscreens sold at Caddell’s offer broad-spectrum and anti-inflammatory formulas and help ward off signs of aging such as fine line, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation when used consistently and as directed.

How Sunscreens Help

  • Anti-inflammatory botanical ingredients calm inflammation and redness triggered by UV rays and heat.
  • Broad-spectrum and water resistant.
  • Formulated for any skin type – even sensitive skin.
  • Cosmetically elegant formulas can be used alone or under makeup.

Sunscreen Application Tips

Tip #1 When to Apply

  • Sunscreen needs time to bind to the outer layer of the skin for maximum benefit and protection. Apply to cool, dry skin in the morning 15-30 minutes before leaving the house, or before going outdoors for an extended length of time.
  • Applying sunscreen to hot, wet skin will dramatically diminish the effectiveness of the sunscreen.

Tip #2 How Much to Apply

  • The recommended amount of sunscreen for the face and body is one full ounce, or a shot glass size amount, to all exposed areas of the body.
  • Remember to apply to the entire neck area as well as ears, which are often forgotten and are prime areas for skin cancer and skin aging.

Tip #3 Always Reapply Sunscreen

  • Next to not applying at all, the biggest mistake with sunscreen is not reapplying. A second layer after the initial 15-30 minutes is ideal, but reapplication should happen at least every two hours.
  • Apply more frequently when sweating, or after swimming and toweling off, making sure the skin has cooled down and is dry before applying more sunscreen.

Tip #4 Wearing Protective Clothing

  • If you’re going to be outside for long periods of time, wear UPF clothing and wide-brimmed hats, covering exposed areas as much as possible.

Tip #5 Understand the Label

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sunscreens are considered over-the-counter drugs, and as such a sunscreen label can only make very specific claims.

These claims are:

  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF)
  • Broad-Spectrum (UVA and UVB protection)
  • Water Resistant

Making claims on the packaging such as anti-pollution or anti-inflammatory are unregulated drug claims and are in violation of the rules regulating sunscreens.

Stay safe this summer and protect your skin, you’ll be glad you did! If you need sunscreen Caddell’s carries Elta MD, Epionce and Suntegrity. Contact us today to stock up before the hot weather is here! You’ll be glad you did!

What You Need to Know Before Starting Laser Tattoo Removal

  • February 11, 2019

If you’ve recently joined the "Ink Regret” Club or are a Charter Member and if you’re still debating whether to have the ink removed here are some hints that will help when you’re finally convinced to get your tatts lasered off.

1. Forget the discount places.

Discount places advertise great prices and sell you a group of appointments for a "cheaper” price. There are several reasons not to use cheaper clinics or discount promotions for tattoo removal.

  • It’s a medical procedure. There’s a chance you could burn and scar. Using outdated equipment increases the chance of that. Go to a clinic with experienced estheticians and the best equipment (like Caddell’s!) who can provide you with the best laser tattoo removal.
  • The cheaper clinics may not use the most effective setting and you could end up having more treatments than if you had gone to professionals who use correct settings for fewer treatments. And you want the tat off sooner, right?
Lion Before and After

2. It will take several treatments.

That tattoo that took an hour to get will take several appointments to remove. They don’t just disappear; laser tattoo removal isn’t an eraser that can magically erase your tattoo. The laser used at your tattoo removal appointment focuses on the ink and breaks down the tattoo ink particles and then they are absorbed by your immune system. It takes about six to eight weeks for the particles to get absorbed so at your next appointment, the laser will pinpoint and breakdown new particles.

3. The cost of laser tattoo removal.

Even with the growing popularity of tattoo removal and the number of clinics offering the treatment, it isn’t an inexpensive treatment. Based on several different factors such as the age of the tattoo, the size, the ink colors, darkness and type, the treatment can cost hundreds of dollars per session. The average cost per session, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is $463. But see #1 for why it’s worth it.

4. New equipment works better.

Lasers have improved a lot. Gone are the days when the only ink we could completely remove was black. Now greens and yellows can be removed just as easily. The color that can’t be removed is white because there’s nothing for the laser to pinpoint with white ink, the laser can’t see it. Before you have a tattoo put on with white ink decide if it’s something you really want because you’ll have to live with it forever – no do-overs with white ink. And using white ink to cover a tattoo instead of getting it removed won’t work either due to changing skin tones throughout your life and during the seasons.

5. It hurts during treatment. And after.

You’ve already got the tattoo, so you know it was a bit uncomfortable and getting it removed shouldn’t be a big deal. Tattoo Removal is uncomfortable both during and after treatment. That’s right. The lasered area doesn’t stop hurting when the treatment’s over. After the treatment, the area may be red, swollen, blistered and bruised. For a couple of days, you will need to apply Aquaphor and bandages. Loose clothing on the area may help too. The good news is that each treatment requires less aftercare as there is less ink reacting to the laser.

4 Square

Before you get started, realize that Laser Tattoo Removal isn’t a walk in the park and it’s definitely not safe to get it done anywhere it’s offered. Nor is it a quick, inexpensive and pain-fee treatment. It will require dedication and patience but if you stick with it the results will be worth it! Laser Hair Reduction for Men

  • September 5, 2018

If you’ve always thought you’d never have Laser Hair reduction – it’s time to re-think that.

Remember the movie, The 40-year old Virgin? And the waxing scene? If you’d like to avoid that, then consider Laser Hair Removal. If you’d like to stop going to the barber between haircuts for neck hair trims, then consider Laser Hair Removal. If you’d like to avoid razor burns and ingrown hairs, then consider Laser Hair Removal!

Steve Carrell

With the season change and the fading tan, now is the time to begin Laser Hair reduction.

Here are a few areas that men can benefit from with Laser Hair Removal

Beards and Beard Sculpting

Ingrown Hairs and Razor Burn are a painful fact of life for a lot of men. Developing uncomfortable stubble within a couple of hours after shaving has many men looking for alternatives. The answer is Laser Beard Sculpting and it's easier than you think.

Laser Hair reduction is a great solution if you want to reduce the thickness and coarseness of your beard hair. Notice the treatment is REDUCTION, not removal. Hair grows back softer, thinner and finer - reducing the need for shaving multiple times a day with Laser Hair reduction.

The treated areas need shaving less often which eliminates razor burn and allows the face to rest.

Beard Sculpting

Laser Beard Sculpting for a Sharp, Clean Look

Whether you want a clean margin to your upper or lower beard line opting for Laser Beard Sculpting may be the right answer for you.

Lots of men have their beards creeping up towards their eyes or down on their neck and would rather have these areas free of hair. With laser beard sculpting this hair can be removed, leaving a clean-shaven look where you want so you still remain manly looking.

Laser Beard Sculpting can also shape the beard and give the "five o-clock shadow” that some men intentionally keep.

Laser Hair reduction on the beard and neck reduces folliculitis, ingrown hair and barber’s rash that comes from too much unwanted hair on the face and from shaving too often. A few Laser Hair reduction treatments can help reduce the time you spend shaving and grooming, leaving time for more important things.

Oftentimes the only time for treatments is during lunch and with Laser Hair reduction being fast and nearly painless, there’s no time needed for numbing creams. And the biggest advantage of Laser Hair reduction is hair grows back finer and more slowly than before treatment.

BeardSculpting

Back, Chest and Neck Treatments

Back Hair Removal for Men

Laser Hair Removal is the most effective way to reduce and remove unwanted back hair. No more frustration from constantly having to ask your girlfriend or wife to shave or wax your back and you don’t have to worry about taking off your shirt after you have Laser Hair Removal. Normally a full back hair removal treatment can be done in an hour, so you can sneak in an appointment during a long lunch.

Chest Hair Removal for Men

Does Your Cleavage Give Away Your Age?

  • August 9, 2018

Prevent Cleavage Lines

There’s lots of talk and information about how to keep your face looking young and wrinkle free, but what about your cleavage? This is a more difficult area to treat and is highly visible. The cleavage, or décolleté, is an area just below the neck and it can be a major indicator of a person’s age. Thin, delicate skin is exposed to harmful sun rays and UV light and is susceptible to damage that can lead to cleavage lines.

Treatment Options

Treatment options for a wrinkled décolleté can range from do-it-yourself creams to breast pillows to the extreme of surgery. There are several treatment options available and suggestions for keeping your décolleté as young and fresh looking as your face. You don’t want to have your décolleté give away your age. So, what should you do? This blog post shares some of the best options.

1. Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels consist of applying either alpha hydroxy acids, such as Glycolic acid or a bit stronger Jessner Peel to the décolleté. If an even greater depth peel is desired, then a trichloroacetic acid peel is applied to the décolleté area to:

  • Improve the look and feel of décolleté skin, creating smoother skin.
  • Reduce wrinkles that are caused by age and damage from the sun.
  • Reduce spots, freckles and dark patches, a leading indication of age.

2. Laser Treatments

There are a variety of laser treatments available and in some cases, a combination of treatments will provide the best results. For removing dark skin pigmentation, the Yag Laser is a beneficial treatment. Wrinkles, stretch marks, scars and burns can be treated with the Fractional Co2 Laser. The Laser Genesis can be used to improve redness and reduce wrinkles. IPL/Photo Facial treatments are a great anti-aging treatment used on the face, neck, décolleté and hands to remove sun damage and broken capillaries. Microcurrent treatments help tone and tighten the skin and give immediate and visible results. And Microneedling safely reduces wrinkles and the appearance of scars. This treatment causes the production of collagen and elastin, making skin look younger and smoother again.

3. Keeping Your Diet Clean and Healthy

You and your skin can benefit from eating healthy with the results being a healthier body and fewer cleavage lines. Eating plenty of natural foods, fruits, vegetable and lean protein provides your skin with the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay smooth and look younger longer. Adding wrinkle-fighting foods to your diet will provide important nutrients like Vitamin C, monounsaturated fats, anti-inflammatories, antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. These foods include, citrus, kiwi, strawberries, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, yellow peppers, nuts and hemp seeds, avocado, chicken, fish and beef.

4. Drinking Enough Water

There’s no substitute for good, clean water. No, I’m serious. There’s no substitute for pure clear water, not sports drinks, coffee, tea or pop. Water removes impurities and toxins that can cause damage and wrinkles. This is one main reason why it’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, every day.

5. Wear Sunscreen

Too much sun can damage and age your skin prematurely. UV rays can cause the breakdown of collagen and elastin in our skin, which causes the skin to sag inward and form lines and creases. And creases eventually lead to wrinkles. It is recommended to wear sunscreen with at least a SPF record of 30 everyday.

6. Exfoliate and Cleanse

Exfoliation, the removing of dead skin cells, is an important step in keeping your skin from looking older than it is. Exfoliation also encourages skin cell rejuvenation, which helps new skin cells to grow and replace the old dead ones.

7. Moisturize

Moisturizing the cleavage area is one of the most important things you can do to keep your décolleté looking younger. You can supplement the moisture you get from staying hydrated by applying topical moisturizer to your skin daily. When moisturizer is used consistently it can hydrate, smooth and brighten your skin all day long. And be sure to moisturize before bed.

8. Wear Support While You Sleep

The skin on your décolleté is delicate and thin and sleeping on your side can cause damage from gravity, which forces the top breast farther past the middle of your body. This can cause your skin to stretch and wrinkle. To help prevent cleavage lines from forming, try wearing a support product that will protect this area while you sleep.

Using these eight steps can help reduce cleavage lines and can increase your health over all. Contact the experts at Caddell's to see how they can make you feel and look younger!
