Are Microneedling Treatments for You

Microneedling

Do you have wrinkles and scars that you’d like to eliminate? Then Microneedling is one treatment you’ve probably heard of, or even Googled, and should try.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure done with a dermaroller that uses small needles to prick the skin. This creates new collagen and skin tissue that is smoother, firmer and more toned. The dermaroller is applied to your skin multiple times during the treatment, creating tiny wounds to your skin. These wounds trigger collagen to the surface of your skin to repair the skin. The result is smoother, plumper and more glowing skin. Multiple treatments are recommended for best results. Treatments are usually short, 20 minutes or so, with very little downtime. Most people have minimal redness on their skin for an hour or so and can return to normal activities the next day.

When Can You Have Microneedling Treatments?

A plus for Microneedling is that it can be done any time of the year – whether you’re tan or not. Normally treatments are done on the face but can also be done on the hands, neck and the décolleté. Any time of year is a great time to have a Microneedling appointment!

Recently, the FDA approved the SkinPen® Microneedling device by Bellus Medical. At-Home Microneedling Treatments

If you’re aware that you can purchase dermarollers and do Microneedling at home, then undoubtedly you’ve seen that rollers are readily available at retail and online stores for very affordable prices. Why not just do this treatment at home? That’s a possibility, however, there are specific risks when this treatment is done at home.

  • There is a real danger of infection when treatments are done at home. Using at-home devices pose a risk of infection if it is not properly sterile. The resulting infection can require visits to the doctor and may result in scarring.
  • It can be difficult to use the dermaroller correctly, resulting in the treatments actually enlarging pores instead of reducing them when the roller is dragged over the skin. If the needles go in and out of your skin at an angle it can actually cause the wounds to be elongated, which can possibly enlarge the pores.
  • Buying an inexpensive roller can cause real problems, such as having a needle fall off the roller and getting embedded in your skin! OUCH!
  • The at-home rollers don’t penetrate the skin as deep as the professional rollers. This is what makes them perfect for the in-between treatments.

Experts agree that at-home treatments can be beneficial when done between professional Microneedling treatments. You can purchase an at-home dermaroller at Caddell’s for a reasonable price and feel confident that you are getting the best at-home roller possible.
