What is Microdermabrasion and how does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a skin treatment that has proven effective for all skin types and colors. The process of microdermabrasion removes dead and flaking skin cells and promotes the production of new cells and collagen in the deepest layers of your skin. This process provides a smoother and improved appearance to your skin, even after the first treatment.

Microdermabrasion is a closed vacuum system delivering aluminum oxide crystals to the skin. Using a hand-held instrument, aluminum oxide crystals are directed onto the skin. This loosens and exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells. The crystals and skin cells are then vacuumed away to reveal your fresher, smoother and healthier looking skin.

Are there any side effects from Microdermabrasion treatments?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment which treats only the outer layer of your skin. Because of this, the treatment is relatively painless; there is no downtime or side effects. Patients typically experience some redness for about an hour after the procedure and some tightness of the skin. There may be some minor flaking and skin sensitivity for a few days after the procedure.

How long does the procedure last?

The total treatment time for the face is less than 60 minutes.

How much does it cost?

The number of treatments recommended will be based on the results you would like to achieve. Results are noticeable after the first treatment and improvement continues throughout your treatment program. What should I expect after each treatment?

After your first treatment, your skin should have a light pink glow with a soft texture. More aggressive treatments may leave a slightly red appearance for approximately 24 hours. Some patients may experience a light peeling after the more aggressive treatments. It is recommended that you go without cosmetic makeup; however, patients may apply cosmetic makeup after treatment over a non-irritating moisturizer. You should avoid the sun for 24 hours after treatment and when exposed to the sun use an SPF 30 sunscreen/block. Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
